Diabolical Birds

Liza LIM
Born 1966, Perth, Australia

Diabolical Birds (1990)
piccolo, bass clarinet, piano, violin, violoncello, vibraphone
Commissioned by Seymour Group with the assistance of the Australia Council

Diabolical Birds is related to an earlier work Voodoo Child and both pieces seek to explore the expressive intensity of feelings of vertigo, claustrophobia, convulsiveness and losing control. The `birds´ of the title are more closely aligned with Hitchcock's vision of these creatures than that of a benign pastoral scene.

Diabolical Birds was commissioned by the Seymour Group with financial assistance from the Australia Council.
