2006 Programme

d-construction

Rupturing sonic and visual predictability, permeating seemingly solid structures, epics of transformation. Richard BARRETT's d-CONSTRUCTION is the creative development stage of CONSTRUCTION, commissioned by Liverpool European Capital of Culture 2008.

The large scale work CONSTRUCTION will explore Utopian Cities and takes its point of departure from the writings of Francis BACON (The New Atlantis), Tommaso CAMPANELLA (Cities of the Sun), Euripedes, William MORRIS and others. These stories deal with journey and the telling of a `future' or a `possibility' which contains within itself all ideal human and societal possibilities. The idea of multiple layers of `past' showing through in the present is very relevant to the Liverpool 2008 project, as is the historical influence of different places on any given location.

Also premiered will be Surveillance, a new work by New Zealand composer Jim GARDNER produced as part of the ELISION Trans-Tasman Residency.
