ELISION Ensemble focusses on virtuoso works for solo flute and solo viola by
composers as diverse as Iannis XENAKIS, Gerard BROPHY, Pascal DUSAPIN and
Brian FERNEYHOUGH. The composer Chaya CZERNOWIN returns to Australia to
attend performances of Six Miniatures and a simultaneous song
written for
the ELISION ensemble and first performed by ELISION in 1999. The work will
be performed twice within the same concert. Each performance will offer to
the audience a different acoustic relationship and spatialisation of the
ensemble.
Czernowin, in her programme note says, "For years I have been investigating
what I would call `changing lenses´: going from pieces for solo instruments
. . . looking into the different grains of a singular voice . . .
to taking
different, often contrasting instruments, and molding them into one
composite instrument. Upon completion of these miniatures, it occured to me
that this paradigm can be further stretched, as two contrasting pices
written in relationship to each other `alchemize" into a new being--a third
piece".
