1999 Programme
In 1999 ELISION continues to engage with visual arts practice.
Lament of Desire,
a collaboration with the Thai artist Araya RASDJARMREARNSOOK
for the The Festival of Perth, takes place in February and a
further highlight of this aspect of ELISION Ensemble's programme
is its involvement
in the Third Asia-Pacific Triennial hosted by the
Queensland Art Gallery from September 1999 into January 2000.
The Triennial will see ELISION Ensemble and composers Liza LIM and
Richard BARRETT
work with visual artists Judith WRIGHT of Brisbane and Heri DONO of
Jogkarta, respectively. These projects, through site-specific work,
interrogate the formal possibilities, ambiguities and suggestions that can
arise from the interplay of two disciplines.
The Queensland Art Gallery has also commissioned composer and ELISION Ensemble member
Timothy O'DWYER to write and perform a work to celebrate the Gallery's
acquisition of Void (#13) by Anish Kapoor.
Electro-acoustic work is continued with the E-Motion concert at the
Schömerhaus, Klosterneuburg, Austria concert and the premiere of
Richard BARRETT's transmission for
electric guitar and live electronics, followed by a
live Internet perfomance from www.rhiz.org, Vienna.
The new Studio of the Sydney Opera House will be the venue for ELISION Ensemble's
premieres of works by Karlheinz ESSL and Isabel MUNDRY to Australia
audiences within the context of the IAMIC conference. And in the final
Australian concert of the year ELISION Ensemble will premiere part of
John RODGERS'
Inferno, a composition which will eventually
last 90 minutes and will be
premiered in full in the year 2000 for the Adelaide Festival.
