von hinter dem Schmerz from behind the Pain
8:30pm, Wednesday 22 July 1998
8:30pm, Thursday 23 July 1998
Goethe Institut-Sydney, Ocean Street, Woollahra
A music-performance event weaving together the virtuosic compositional
voices of Klaus K. HÜBLER and Nicolaus A. HUBER from Germany,
alonside the extended instrumental explorations of composer Richard BARRETT
and improviser Timothy O'DWYER. In turn guttural, earthy, then angelic and
other-worldly, musicians
performing upon the harp, violoncello, saxophone and voice, create a
visceral and powerful visionary landscape.
The common aesthetic keynote to the music is the painful beauty of
Paul CELAN's poetry, a text of violently wrested meanings,
rhythmic complexity
and shatteringly poignant silences. O'Dwyer's saxophone and voice
improvisations frame the concert, providing a dynamic commentary to the
notated works.
These concerts also provide Australian audiences a rare opportunity to hear
the work of Nicolaus A. HUBER.
