1997 Programme
The 1997 ELISION Ensemble concert year kicks off in early March with the
premiere of a major new work by Richard BARRETT, Opening of the Mouth. Presented within the
context of an installation by Crow in the now abandoned Midland Railway
Workshops outside Perth, this event will be the new music highlight of the
1997 The Festival of Perth. A few days later, parts of Opening of the Mouth, and a further installation
by Crow, will be presented in Sydney as scherbentöne . . . ausgewirbelt.
The other two major ensemble performances in 1997 will emphasise ELISION Ensemble's
growing links with the Asia/Pacific region. The first, PACIFICA will be
part of the 1997 and final Brisbane Biennial Festival of Music, and will feature the premiere of
Brian FERNEYHOUGH's Incipits and new works for ELISION by Japanese
composer Akira NISHMURA, Korean Manbang YI and Australian Liza LIM. Then in
October ELISION Ensemble will perform in Korea as guests of the ISCM World
Music Days 1997, Seoul.
ELISION soloists will be presenting two concerts in Brisbane
(at the University and for Festival Integrales), and thee concerts in
Holland (Amsterdam and Groningen). In the studio, 1997 should see
the completion of a new CD of Brian FERNEYHOUGH solo works.
