YAN Jiemin erhu
Erhu artist Yan Jiemin is currently a Professor at the
Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, China. She graduated from the
Central Conservatory of Music, where she studied Erhu Performance and
Composition under Professor WANG Guotong and Professor
XU Zhenmin.
Jiemin's erhu education began at age six and has included numerous awards
and distinctions as both a peformer and educator. She came in first at
the National Junior Folk Instrumental Solo Competition in 1982, and in
1994 won the First Prize at the International Competition for
Chinese Instrumental Concerto held in Taipei. She was the recipient of
the 8th National Award for Young Teachers in Tertiary Institutions
presented by the Henry Fok Education Foundation in 2002.
She is active on the performing stage not only in China, but on the
international music scene as well. As a recording artist, she has a
number of solo albums to her credit. As a performing artist, she has
held numerous recitals in many countries and regions in Asia, Europe,
and Australia, and has performed with many composers and orchestras
at some of the world?s most high-profile music festivals. These festivals
include the English Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, Holland Festival, Australian Adelaide Festival,
Lyon Musicades, Berlin Festival, Lakshminarayana Global Music Festival,
Zurich Theatre Spektekel, Melbourne Festival, Torino Settembre Musica,
Taiwan Traditional Art Festival, Beijing International Music Festival,
Macao International Festival, and Shanghai Spring International Festival.
According to De Volkskrant, one of the most influential
newspapers in Holland, Jiemin was acclaimed as an "electrifying virtuoso"
and the "Oistrakh of China". Billions of people around the world have
watched her on CCTV, China's most watched TV station.
