Stephen MOREY mandolin
Born in Bacchus Marsh, Stephen Morey began to play the mandolin at age
15, after being attracted to the Melbourne Mandolin Orchestra playing
Italian Overtures.
He since developed a great love for 18th-century music and in 1987
undertook and study/research tour of Europe during which he studied mandolin
with Keith HARRIS and others.
He has given solo concerts in Italy, Germany, Spain and Japan, and freelanced
with the Melbourne Symphony and Orchestra Victoria. Stephen also conducted an ambitious programme
of commissioning new works for the mandolin, seeking to extend and redefine
the possibilities for that instrument. He is a founder member of ELISION Ensemble
and toured Europe twice with the ensemble.
In 1995 Stephen retired from public music-making to pursue a new career
in languages.
