Mark KNOOP piano
Mark Knoop commenced music study at the age of seven, learning
the piano with Eric MITCHELL by the Suzuki Method. He studied with
Peter CLARKEN at the Tasmanian Conservatorium of Music for two years
before moving to Melbourne to complete his Bachelor of Music Performance
degree at the Victorian College of the Arts with Stephen McINTYRE. He studied conducting with
Robert ROSEN. He has also studied internationally with Herbert HENCK,
James AVERY and Peter FEUCHTWANGER.
Mark performs regularly in recital and as a chamber musician. He has
also recorded and broadcast live for ABC Classic FM including a recording of
Messiaen's song cycle Harawi with dramatic soprano
Kirsten BOEREMA.
Mark is conductor and pianist of the Libra Ensemble with
whom he has premiered works by Chris DENCH, Brenton BROADSTOCK and Benjamin MARKS
and given Australian premieres of works by Richard BARRETT, Brian FERNEYHOUGH,
Giacinto SCELSI and Michael FINNISSY. Mark has also conducted premieres
of works by Matthew SHLOMOWITZ and Anne BOYD and Australian premieres
of works by James DILLON and Iannis XENAKIS. Mark is recognised as a
distinctive interpreter of both contemporary music and traditional
repertoire.
