Deborah KAYSER soprano
Whilst completing her Bachelor of Music degree at The Australian Catholic
University Deborah Kayser studied with Merlyn QUAIFE in Melbourne,
and in Washington DC and Boston with Dorothy DASH and Richard CONRAD.
Deborah's main areas in performance focus on Baroque music and contemporary
works. She has recently been a solo guest artist with The Choir of Ormond
College, Il Pastor Fido, Fiata Con Brio, The Melbourne Bach Orchestra and the
Melbourne Chamber Orchestra. On the contemporary scene Deborah has premiered
works by Australian composers David YOUNG, Helen GIFFORD and Liza LIM. Since 1993
she has been a regular performer with ELISION Ensemble, appearing both in Lim's
opera The Oresteia directed by Barrie KOSKY, and in two cycles of the
installation piece Bar-do'i-thos-grol, a work based on the Tibetan Book of the Dead
and perfomed in Lismore and at The Festival of Perth. Deborah gave the first performance
of German composer Volker HEYN's Nuuh or Max the Fiddler's
Complaint, and has performed Michael SMETANIN's Skinless Kiss of
Angels with ELISION Ensemble and appeared in his The Burrow
with Chamber Made Opera.
Recently Deborah has taken part in Liza LIM's work The Cauldron--fusion of
the 5 elements an installation piece for the Asia-Pacific Triennial
of Contemporary Art held in Brisbane during 1996, and joined with ELISION Ensemble
for the premiere performance of Richard BARRETT's work Opening of the Mouth at the 1997
The Festival of Perth. Deborah is currently working with Double Bass player Nick TSAIVOS on
building repertoire for soprano and bass.
