Ming TSAO
Ming Tsao began his musical education at an early age,
studying violin and, later, music composition. He has received
graduate degrees from Columbia University in music (M.A.), where he
studied composition with Mario DAVIDOVSKY, and from
San Francisco State University in mathematics (M.A.), where he wrote
his thesis on mathematical music theory. He also spent several years
composing music for the Butoh dance troupe URO. He is presently a Ph.D.
candidate in music at the University of California, San Diego where he
studies with composer Chaya CZERNOWIN. His music has been performed
by members of the Nieuw ensemble, Left Coast ensemble, Ensemble Surplus,
and at the Darmstadt summer new music courses.
